Gonzalo Vazquez Gabor was removed from the position of director of Criminal Identification of the Ministry of the Interior after an administrative investigation in which the official did not report an error in the background of Alexander Astesianthe former custodian of President Luis Lacalle Pou, charged this week.

65 years old, Vazquez is psychologist, writer, criminal expert and police officer. He is the author of the book From Carlos Escayola to Carlos Gardelthe biography of Carlos Gardel’s father. He is the great-great-grandson of Gardel’s alleged father and defends that theory. Although he disagrees with the incestuous nature of this relationship, he argues that Gardel’s mother was simply Escayola’s sister-in-law.

He is the doctor’s son Jorge Vazquez Nettoin the line of descent from Clarita Escayola, married to Julio Netto, is the great-great-grandson of the presumed father of Carlos Gardel, Colonel Carlos Félix Escayola, political leader of Tacuarembó (Uruguay), in the marriage branch with his first wife, Clara Oliva.

“For us, this is the truth of our family. We are not going to impose any theory, we simply present our truths. From the Escayola family we want to say that this happened like this,” Vázquez explained to The Observer in 2013, when he published the book.

The writer announced the result of his research on the subject where he provides a testimonial and documented version of the history of the Escayola family, and fits within it, the circumstances that affected the birth and reasons for the concealment of the existence of a child who was later allegedly the singer Carlos Gardel.

As a child, Vázquez listened to family stories at home, especially from his older aunts, who would get together every weekend, whispering about what was an open secret for them and the source of endless jokes and comments.

In 1989, the former chief joined the National Directorate of Technical Police (DNPT) – today Scientific – after passing through the National Police School. He specialized as a criminal expert in 1994, after studying at the Escuela Policial de Estudios Superiores (EPES) in Montevideo.

In that same year, 1994, he received his degree as a psychologist at the Institute of Humanistic Psychology of Uruguay.

In 2012 he was awarded the “Ministry of the Interior” award for his actions in the fight against crime in Uruguay, as well as the “DNPT Functional Intelligence Award”.
