The Minister of the Presidency of Panama, Juan Carlos Orillac, and the General Director of Metro de Panamá, SA, engineer César A. Pinzón M., made an official visit to the Dominican Republic to study the Santo Domingo cable car. This visit was intended to gain experience and seek technical cooperation for the implementation of a similar system in Panama.
“The Santo Domingo cable car, with six years of operation, has proven to be an efficient solution for urban connectivity and safe mobility, principles that we wish to apply in Panama City,” said engineer Pinzón. The visit turned out to be positive for Metro de Panamá, SA, which is seeking the technical cooperation promised by the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, to the President of Panama, José Raúl Mulino.
The project in Panama involves the construction of a cable car in the district of San Miguelito, with the purpose of connecting this area with Metro Lines 1 and 2, improving access for a population that has been neglected due to the difficult topographic conditions. Metro de Panamá, SA has published in Panama Compras a Request for Information for two key aspects: the Environmental Impact Study and the Technical, Legal and Financial Studies necessary for the bidding of the Administrative Concession of the new system. This cable car will benefit more than 130 thousand inhabitants of the central area of San Miguelito.
