The Plenary of the National Assembly decided to summon the director of the National Institute of Aqueducts and National Sewers (Idaan), Juan Antonio Ducruet to explain the current situation that affects a large part of the population due to lack of drinking water.
An issue that mainly afflicts communities in the province of Panama Oeste who have protested the prolonged closures of the Arraiján La Chorrera highway, for which Ducruet must answer the following nine-question questionnaire:
- Explain, what is the current situation of the Howard water treatment plant?
- Explain what is IDAAN’s drinking water production and distribution capacity in Arraijan, Chorrera and the rest of Panama West?
- What investment plans do you have in mind to meet the demand for drinking water in this region in the short term?
- Indicate what the Sectorization Plan for Drinking Water in Arraijan and Chorrera consists of?
- Has the IDAAN contemplated any alternative to the Sectorization Plan of Arraiján and Chorrera?
- Explain if IDAAN carried out prior consultations with the residents of the affected areas of Arraiján and Chorrera for the elaboration of the Drinking Water Sectorization Plan?
- Indicate, what is the investment budget of IDAAN for the construction of infrastructure for the distribution of water in Arraiján, Chorrera and Panama Oeste?
- Does IDAAN have measurements on the percentage affected by the population in West Panama that currently does not have permanent drinking water service?
- Indicate which other regions of the country do not have permanent drinking water service and explain what actions IDAAN has taken in each case?
