The director of Regional Superintendencies of the State Environment Institute (Inea) of Rio de Janeiro, Ronaldo Carlos de Medeiros Júnior, was dismissed after being caught driving a car with the tampered sign. He also committed the infraction to flee a toll on the federal highway BR-101, at the time of Campos dos Goytacazes (RJ), in North Fluminense.
The dismissal was confirmed in a statement by the Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Environment and Sustainability (Seas), to which the environmental agency is linked. The folder also adds that an inquiry was opened to investigate what happened.
The case occurred last Wednesday (5). The dismissal should be published in the edition of the State Official Gazette this Monday (10). On the INEA website, Ronaldo is still listed as director.
The car involved in the case is a white pickup truck. Ronaldo was stopped by agents of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) after evading the toll. In the approach, it was realized that the truck plate belonged to another official vehicle, also under the responsibility of Inea. They are cars intended for inspection actions of the environmental agency.
Ronaldo was appointed director at Inea at the beginning of the current management of Seas Secretary Bernardo Rossi. The two had already worked together at Petrópolis City Hall. Rossi commanded the municipality between 2017 and 2020 and appointed Ronaldo as municipal secretary of works and housing.
In addition to the SEAS opened investigation, the occurrence is under investigation of the 134th Police Station, based in Campos dos Goytacazes.
