The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Raúl Soto, publicly denounced the existence of threats and acts of intimidation against some one hundred parliamentarians from both chambers, who had received intimidating messages in their institutional emails for having expressed their commitment to a new constituent process.
Through a video posted on social networks, Soto denounced that “several parliamentarians have received explicit threats by email and publication of the addresses of deputies and senators to inhibit the search for agreements to enable a new constitutional process,” said the deputy.
“Know that they are not going to intimidate or detain us because this process is necessary for Chile and its democracy, and we are going to file a complaint with the PDI and carry out all the corresponding legal actions so that this situation is investigated and the people who are involved assume responsibility. behind,” added Soto.
The vice president of the Lower House, Alexis Sepúlveda, reported that “the complaint has already been made to the Investigative Police through the general secretary of the chamber. As a table we reject an action of this nature”. And he added: “They are not going to intimidate us. We are convinced that we have a mandate delivered by the entry plebiscite and we will seek agreements to have a new constituent process and a new Constitution in democracy”.
