The election of the new Petroperú board is still pending. As this newspaper learned, there is a trap due to the insistence of President Dina Boluarte that the former head of the oil company Alejandro Narváez lead the company.

The board headed by Oliver Stark resigned from office on September 10. Initially, the Executive stated that on Monday the 16th they would have the names of the replacements and then they promised to announce it this week. To date there is nothing concrete.
Recently, in an interview with Infobae, Narváez assured: “I am still the candidate” of the head of state and stated that he has had two meetings with her. In his statements he also pointed out that it is “serious” to start selling the assets of the public company, despite the fact that it has assets that are not in line with the company’s activity. He has also questioned the possible hiring of a PMO to manage the restructuring, noting that management can handle this work.
One of the people who could accompany Narváez, if elected, is the former president of Perupetro, Isabel Tafur. At the time there was also talk of Aurelio Ochoa although he ruled it out.
As it became known, both the Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho, and the Minister of Economy, José Arista, do not support the president’s candidate and have presented an alternative proposal.
DOES NOT ADVANCE
Analyst Anthony Laub stated that the delay in the election of the board shows little interest on the part of the Executive to carry out the restructuring of the oil company.
“Although the resigning board must be in office until the new one enters, the truth is that the company continues to function, but without a clear direction,” he added.
In that sense, he explained that as long as there is no election, part of the restructuring plan can be launched, such as the election of the specialized firm in charge of designing and implementing Petroperú’s transformation process.
Likewise, he questioned the possible appointment of Narváez and considered that his arrival “would be harmful” to the interests of the company.
