The president’s lawyer Dina BoluarteJuan Carlos Portugal, spoke about the rumors of a possible resignation or political asylum of the president, who faces five presidential vacancy motions.
In statements to the press, Portugal clarified that it has not held talks with the head of state about a resignation and emphasized that these decisions correspond exclusively to the political sphere.
“We have not spoken with the president about a possible resignation. I cannot affirm it or rule it out because, as her lawyer, her political decisions do not correspond to me,” said the lawyer.
Likewise, he flatly denied that Boluarte is considering requesting asylum or leaving the country. “I have not spoken about any political asylum. I rule out with a capital letter that the President of the Republic either seeks asylum or flees the country,” he stressed.
On the other hand, Portugal added that it trusts that constitutional procedures will be respected, in case a motion against Boluarte is activated in Parliament.
“There is a constitutional design that must be respected in every process and, in that context, there is a parliamentary process that does not concern me,” he indicated.
