This Wednesday, November 27the Government of Dina Boluarte made official the resignation of the Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho, after a motion of censure that was approved with 69 votes in favor, 4 against and 13 abstentions by the Congress of the Republic. Much made public his resignation from the position amid criticism related to the Small Mining and Artisanal Mining Bill, also known as the ASM Law.
In Supreme Resolution No. 246-2024-PCM published in the Official Gazette El Peruano, which bears the signatures of President Dina Boluarte and the President of the Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzén, Rómulo Mucho was thanked for the services provided.
“Accept the resignation of Mr. Rómulo Mucho Mamani from the position of Minister of State in the Office of Energy and Mines, thanking him for the services provided to the Nation,” the resolution states.
It should be noted that Congress maintained that the law proposed by the Executive does not solve the problem of informal and artisanal miners, who demand the expansion of the Comprehensive Registry of Mining Formalization (Reinfo) that expires on December 31 of this year. Much is the second minister censored by the Congress of the Republic in the administration of President Dina Boluarte.

Rómulo Mucho had already raised the idea of resigning previously
The now former Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho, reported in an interview that at some point he told the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, about the idea of resigning due to the pressure and demands he faced in his position. However, the president responded, “let’s keep working.”
“We are always subject to evaluation. The tasks are immense, we have numerous projects underway. In the area of energy, for example, we manage 35 initiatives. The president urged me to continue with the work, since this ministry has the responsibility of generating resources for the country. We are not dedicated to distributing or spending, but rather to producing,” Mucho explained.
