The deadline for political party registrations expired on July 12. Before that date, several affiliations were made public, including former officials of the Dina Boluarte’s government. From former Prime Minister Alberto Otárola to the current Minister of the Interior, Juan José Santiváñezmany of the inscriptions had an echo in the public sphere.
Juan José Santiváñez – Let’s progress
Among all of them, this affiliation stands out because it lasted less than 24 hours after being officially announced. On July 12, the date on which the deadline for registrations to political organizations closed, The Minister of the Interior announced, in an interview with Milagros Leiva, that he had signed up for Progresemos.
“Indeed, I have signed up for the party. I have reviewed the ideology, which seemed extremely interesting to me. I am not a candidate because it is necessary to participate in internal elections and I am currently completely focused on my work as Minister of the Interior,” he said.
He also did not spare praise for the presidential candidate of that party. “I believe that Hernando de Soto is a born leaderI think that his work has transcended worldwide and (…) I believe that no person can be deprived of the opportunity to contribute to his country. Finally, let’s wait and see how things turn out,” he said.
However, his statement surprised not only the public, but also the party members themselves. On the same day of the public announcement, Luis Herrera criticized the affiliation: “It is incongruous that the acting Minister of the Interior is a member of a party that is asking for the government to leave. So, the minister today resigns from being a minister or resigns from being a member.”
This and other comments caused the resignation of head of the Ministry of the Interiorwho argued that the main reason for his resignation would be that his membership could be misinterpreted by some sectors: “Therefore, I have decided to decline the registration made, thanking the openness that it had, and it should be understood that this is due to the work and commitments assumed.”

Oscar Becerra – Country Advances
On July 11, the former Minister of Education of the Government of Dina Boluarte, Oscar Becerra joined the Avanza País party.
Becerra’s administration at Minedu was characterized by his stance in favor of university counter-reform and by issuing aggressive comments against Aymara women who participated in the protests against President Dina Boluarte.
“Not even animals expose their young. We see it every day in these nature channels, where a mother dies defending her young so that they are not attacked. And we are seeing… Can those who take their children and expose them to the violence that we are witnessing be called mothers? Can we reach that extreme of manipulation?” she declared to the press.
