While getting ready to participate today in the High Level General Debate of the United Nations Assembly, President Dina Boluarte went on Tuesday to the protocol greeting that the heads of state and government offered the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, within the framework of the 80th session of that international body that takes place in New York, United States. According to the Boluarte program, it will be the fifth speaker on the list of leaders included in the agenda.
The last Monday in a speech offered before a group of businessmen, the president used her speech to respond to accusations around the protests that marked the beginning of their management.
The head of state referred to the questions for the more than 60 deaths in the mobilizations between December 2022 and 2023, a period in which her government faced one of the most intense political and social crises of the last decades.
The president said that, despite social turbulence, today the country shows advances regarding the situation he received when assuming power. “I can now say with pride and with gratitude to the team of ministers, my country is different from the one I received,” he said.
Boluarte recalled that he assumed the Head of State on December 7, 2022, after the vacancy of Pedro Castillo, in the midst of a climate of mass protests in various regions of Peru. According to the president, these mobilizations did not arise solely from a citizen discontent, but, ”he said, were promoted by illegal interests.
“Swearing before the Congress of the Republic, I pledged to work faithfully with my hands clean by my homeland, despite the fact that the streets moved financed by illegal mining, drug trafficking and corrupt mafias that still exist in my country, and that they financed those violent mobilizations,” he said.
