The President Dina Boluarte ruled on the arrest of the former president Pedro Castillo for the alleged crime of conspiracy and rebellion, after he carried out a failed coup by trying to close Congress and announcing a reform of the judicial system.
“I am dismayed that Pedro Castillo be detained. I have not fought with him. We have never fought. I accompanied him as far as I could accompany him so that he does not make mistakes, ”said Boluarte.
Along these lines, the president mentioned that “in the last stretch, they cornered him between six people,” who did not let her get close to continue advising Castillo.”
“In that time that he has made that decision that many of us did not understand and did not know. I myself, at that moment when the news of the statement of the coup d’état came out, I felt at risk and almost ran out of my house to save my life ”, he pointed out.
President Dina Boluarte also indicated that she does not understand the reason for the protests inside the countrybecause they are not committing anything illegal.
“I am not committing absolutely nothing. I have been president for a week. I do not understand why the brothers of the entire Peru are rising up against this government, ”she explained.
Regarding the closing of the Congress, Boluarte described the initiative as difficult. “It is a legally difficult decision. President Castillo wanted to close Congress and look where he is”, he sentenced.
