The motion to approve granting investigative powers to the Oversight Commission over the alleged improper use of Dina Boluarte’s presidential vehicle had to obtain 46 votes in favor to be admitted to debate in the Plenary Session of Congress. However, the congressional coalition allied to this regime opposed it and thus, once again, prevented an investigation that would complicate the Government from moving forward.
It was imminent that Perú Libre was not going to support this request because the investigation leads to an alleged use of the presidential vehicle, called a “chest”, in a meeting between President Boluarte and the fugitive leader of the pencil party, Vladimir Cerrón, in the Mikonos condominium, in Asia, south of Lima.
But, in addition to Cerronism, there were eight other political groups that closed ranks and washed their hands of granting investigative powers to the Oversight Commission: Alliance for Progress (APP), Popular Force, Popular Action, Magisterial Bloc, Together for Peru – Voices of the People, We Are Peru and Honor and Democracy.
APP was the only group that voted against the motion. While in the others, their congressmen, for the most part, opted to abstain. The result was reflected in the chamber’s scoreboard: 16 against and 38 abstentions. Thus Congress washed its hands again.
The president of the Oversight Commission, Juan Burgos, had requested investigative powers because he considered it necessary for Dina Boluarte to respond to the chest case, due to the contradictions that exist in the Government. Burgos cited Boluarte, but she, appealing to formalism, decided to respond in writing. A way to avoid showing your face.
Upon leaving the chamber, Burgos showed his annoyance. “A call to all the benches that have abstained, that have colluded with the Government. We are going to continue investigating this issue. The abstentions have won, that is why the presidency of Congress has not determined that the motion be archived “I am going to present the reconsideration. We have seen that infamous alliance of the lackey Parliaments. I tell all the members of Congress who abstained: we are delegitimizing Congress,” he protested.
This is how the 9 benches voted for the shielding of Dina Boluarte
