The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, indicated in her message to the Nation that the Tía María mining project, in the Tambo Valley, Islay, is already a reality. “The Tía María mining project is a reality, which will create 9,000 jobs during the construction phase, and 4,800 permanent jobs, both direct and indirect. The approximate investment is 1.4 billion dollars and will generate 120,000 tons of refined copper per year,” she highlighted during her presentation to Congress.

The governor stressed that the investment will directly benefit the population of the Tambo Valley, as the financial resources will allow citizens to meet their needs and ensure that they have access to basic services.
“The Government is convinced of the benefits of Tía María: it will boost agriculture, close the gaps in education and health, boost trade, improve fishing, and boost tourism,” he said.
Furthermore, the unblocking of this project will ensure private investment in the country, especially in the mining sector, which has been hit by social conflicts with residents of the areas of influence.
“Tía María is not an imposed project, it is a false narrative promoted by small ideological sectors that refuse to admit that mining is the activity that strengthens the economic growth of our country, which will contribute 400 million soles annually to the Arequipa Region, in the form of royalties and royalties,” he concluded.
