In Boluarte’s opinion, López Obrador does not want to give up the bloc’s leadership baton, “simply, for continuing to support the former president (Pedro Castillo) who carried out the coup and has tax files” in Peru.
After Castillo’s failed self-coup, who was later removed by the Peruvian Congress, López Obrador has criticized Boluarte on several occasions and has refused to recognize her as Peruvian president.
It has also granted asylum to the wife of the former Peruvian president, Lilia Paredes, and their children.
Faced with this situation, the Peruvian government declared persona non grata and expelled the Mexican ambassador in Lima, Pablo Monroy, which has generated diplomatic friction between the two countries.
“We want to tell President AMLO (for Andrés Manuel López Obrador) that a political issue is a political issue, but an issue of the development of the peoples through alliances is so important for the development of our peoples,” Boluarte stressed.
