The confrontations between the Municipality of Lima and Government Palace. The President Dina Boluarte He left the statements of the mayor of Lima, Rafael López Aliagawho denounced the inaction of his government and the absence of investments in infrastructure works, during an official event. Without entering the bottom of the claim, the head of state assured that the criticisms of some authorities only seek to “win a little public credit” facing the Executive.
Boluarte said that there are chosen authorities who, instead of working in an articulated way, prefer to send confrontation messages. “I do not understand some authorities chosen by the people, the first thing they want to do to win a little public, advertising credit, I do not know how to call it, they engage in messages against the government,” he said.
Previously, Rafael López Aliaga had anticipated, during the inauguration of a municipal work in the Rimac district, which would lead to the president of his claim for the inaction of his management and the urgency of putting into operation a train with 90 donated cars, whose negotiation – according to he indicated – took two years of work with the Foreign Ministry. The burgomaster questioned that the government has no interest in specifying impact works, ironizing that the ministers raise “by 2050” projects.
“This government, Mrs. Boluarte, tomorrow I tell her on her face, she does not have the slightest intention of doing anything, she does not invest (…) I want her support, because tomorrow I will go on to talk about putting the operational train (…) I have cooked two years with Peruvian Ministry to achieve a donation of a huge team of 90 luxury cars (…) Do not put a clown of minister, because I say: I am not going to do this. typical of those people, “he said.
The Economist questions the management of Rafael López Aliaga in Lima
The British magazine The Economist published a critical report on Rafael López Aliaga, whom he described as a “presidential candidate” and a mayor who has privileged the media show before the management. The weekly highlighted how the burgomaster capitalizes its nickname “Porky” as part of its image strategy, even with pork disguised supporters in their public appearances.
The international environment also stressed controversial decisions during its administration in Lima, such as the failed cancellation of a toll contract that could cost up to US $ 2.7 billion in arbitration, and the purchase of old trains from California without a clear date for its commissioning. In addition, he warned about the increase in municipal debt, which tripled under its management and generated the reduction of the city’s credit rating by Moody’s.
Despite these criticisms, The Economist remarked that López Aliaga heads the intention to vote with a view to the 2026 elections, according to recent Ipsos polls. The publication interprets this support as the reflection of an electorate tired of the political crisis and willing to bet on figures that, although polarizers, manage to connect with citizen discontent.
