The president of the Republic, Dina Boluartestated that the second anchovy fishing season will generate more than 49,000 jobs and will contribute to 1% of the national economy in 2024.

“Our Government is about results and that is why we are satisfied that this second season will generate a contribution of 26.7% to the fishing GDP and a contribution of approximately 1% to the national economy by 2024. In addition, the second season will impact the Peruvian families directly, because more than 49 thousand jobs will be generated,” he said during the official start of the season ceremony in Callao.
He also specified that with the start of this second season, the Executive “reaffirms its commitment to promoting employment, the development of the country and sustainability to meet the needs of Peruvians and contribute to the improvement of their quality of life.” According to the recommendations of the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe), he added, “we are witnessing the beginning of the second fishing season in the north of the country, with a quota of 2,510,000 tons, this is the third highest quota in the last decade and we feel more than proud.
Furthermore, he explained that this figure, added to that of the first season of 2.47 million tons, “will strengthen our exports and ensure the supply of fishmeal in the international market.”
“This year 2024, based on the work of Imarpe and the management of the Ministry of Production, Our country was ratified as one of the best managed fisheries in the worldwhich allows us to enjoy our hydrobiological resources without affecting their sustainability, or falling into predation,” he added.
On Friday, the president of the Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzén, confirmed that this season he plans to generate US$1,349 million in exports alone and consolidate the reactivation of the national economy.
The latest report on production from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) indicated that the fishing sector registered a growth of 33.61% from January to August. Last April and May this sector achieved growth of more than 158% and 329% compared to the same months in 2023, respectively.
