During the 36th anniversary ceremony of the National Police of Peru, the president Dina Boluarte He questioned citizens who distrust police work.
His statements, in line with those of the Minister of the Interior, Juan José Santiváñez, indicated that the PNP is being the target of a “smear campaign.”
“There are petty interests that say that the Police do nothing, that they do not give results. I hope they put on, even symbolically, the police uniform to truly recognize the effort that our Police make every day,” said Boluarte.
The president’s words generated strong reactions on social networks, where users criticized her defense of the institution at a time when the Police are facing questions about cases of corruption and abuse of power. Despite this, Boluarte highlighted the importance of valuing police work for the benefit of citizen security.
Reject vacancy rumors
In her speech, the head of state also rejected rumors about a possible presidential vacancy, describing them as harmful to the country.
“Enough of polarizing our society! Peru learned that with the breakdown of democracy and the rule of law, those who lose are the most vulnerable,” he stated.
Boluarte stressed that he will remain in office until July 28, 2026, the date on which he will hand over command to the next elected president, ensuring that his government will work until the last day.
