The event will take place in the same week that Peru will host APEC 2024a summit that will bring together 21 economies from the countries of Asia, Oceania and America, among which are the largest in the world such as the United States, China and Japan.
The president of the APEC Senior Officials Meetings, Carlos Vásquez, revealed that the opening of the long-awaited work will be observed by both leaders through a screen in the Government Palace.
“There will be a symbolic inauguration ceremony, I think it will be in the Government Palace, with the participation of the President and Xi Jinping. They will witness the inauguration of the Chancay Megaport through a large screen and there will be representatives of both economies in the port itself and the leaders would be in Lima, symbolically inaugurating from the Palace,” he told RPP.
Likewise, Vásquez revealed that, so far, 18 of the 21 economies that make up APEC have confirmed their participation: 14 that responded to the invitation with an official letter and 4 that did so without the letter.
“We have 18 of the 21 economies. We have recent information that there is one more economy that will participate. Until now, Mexico’s response is pending. It will undoubtedly participate, but we do not know at what level,” he announced.
As for Joe Biden, president of the United States, he noted that “from the indications and signals we have received, there is a 95% probability that President Biden will participate in the APEC Summit.”
