The President of the Republic, Dina Boluartean official message gave Monday after the death of the Pope Francisoccurred at 7:35 am (Rome time), highlighting the spiritual and social legacy of the Supreme Pontiff.
In her statement, the president said that the country has decreed national duel and announced the participation of a Peruvian official mission in the funeral that will be carried out in the Vatican.
“Peru joins in a deep feeling of grief and reflection to pay tribute to a humble and brave pastor, whose legacy of love, justice and unity will remain forever in our hearts,” Boluarte said in his message, transmitted from Government Palace.
The president reported that this afternoon he informed the Apostolic Nuncio in Lima that the Executive Power has arranged national duel for the death of Pope Francis, leader of the Catholic Church and the first Latin American pontiff in history. In addition, he announced that a high -level mission will represent the country in official funerals in Rome.
“Faced with this unfortunate event, this afternoon I informed the apostolic announcement that the Executive Power has decreed national duel, and in the same way I have arranged that a high -level mission in the funeral of the Holy Father,” he added.
“Those of us who have public responsibilities will find in their example the guide to serve with humility, with justice, with unity,” he said.
During his message, Boluarte remembered one of Pope Francis’s most emblematic phrases: “To achieve peace, value is needed much more than to make war,” highlighting the coherence of the Pontiff with his messages throughout his papacy.
The president also urged that this day of mourning becomes a day of reflection and commitment to the most needy. “This day of mourning is also a day of commitment to the poorest, forgotten and with whom they are still waiting for justice. That the legacy of Pope Francis inspires us to continue fighting with faith, with love of neighbor, with hope, and especially with that national unit and with peace.”
