The president of the Bank of Brics and former President of the Republic Dilma Rousseff expressed on Monday (21) deep regret for the death of Pope Francis. In a note released by social networksshe highlighted the humanist legacy of the pontiff and classified it as “an example of humanity”.
“The departure of his holiness marks the end of one of the most humanist, brave and inspiring pontificates of recent history,” he said. For Dilma, the Pope, first in Latin America, “brought to the throne of Peter the language of care, simplicity and hope.”
The former president, who was with the pontiff in 2024also stressed the role of Francisco in defense of the poor, in promoting social justice, fraternity among peoples and the struggle for the environment – Often referred by him as the “ordinary house”.
“In times marked by inequalities, environmental crises and conflicts, Francis was the presence of light – capable of uniting faith and reason, spirituality and action, prayer and tenderness,” Dilma wrote, who in 2013 received Pope Francis on his visit to Brazil for the World Youth Day.
She also recalled personal moments of admiration for the religious leader: “I always got emotional with her listening ability, her serene gaze, her unarmed words. Francis returned to the world the beauty of mercy.”
The president of the BRICS Bank provided solidarity with the Pope’s family, the Argentine people – Jorge Mario Bergoglio’s home country – and the millions of faithful around the world who felt touched by their message. “Your most universal son will be proudly remembered for generations,” said Dilma.
“Today, the world loses a spiritual leader. I say goodbye to an example of humanity. Rest in peace, Pope Francis. ”
