MIAMI, United States. — Marcelino Pérez Martínez, a member of the Havana Septetdied this Thursday in Havana at the age of 86.
The news was announced on social networks by the group itself, which highlighted the trajectory of its deceased member.
“Our legendary singer Dignó Marcelino Pérez Martínez has just died in Havana at the age of 86, who will be part of the Gran Septeto Habanero as second voice and keys from 1993 to 2023,” says a publication of the group in Facebook.

Founded in Havana in 1920 as The Havana Sextetthe group would take its current name many years later.
Since its inception, the Septet has stood out for its sound and elegant stage image. It had such an impact that it soon became the first professionalized sound group on the island and was acclaimed in important cultural venues of the time, transcending racial taboos.
Throughout its history, the group has been a school and platform for the improvement of relevant cultists of son and other traditional Cuban genres such as Abelardo Barroso, Panchito Riset, Arsenio Rodríguez, Laíto Sureda, Vicentico Valdés, José Artemio Castañeda (Maracaibo), Pedrito Ibanez, among others.
With more than 100 years of artistic career, the Septeto Habanero remains on the island’s music circuits and its music is available on digital platforms such as Apple Music, Deezer or Spotify.
