Digital nomads and gentrification, binomial that ends the sense of city?

Digital nomads and gentrification, binomial that ends the sense of city?

In mid -2023, when the Federal Government declared the end of the pandemic, another began that nobody knows today, or dares, to face: Gentrification. That is, the massive arrival of those digital nomads. First were places with beach. Then, Mexico City seems to be to stay.

Much of the digital nomads win in a foreign currency. That is, your money in Mexico has more value. Hence, the problem of the upload arises, since their income gives them to pay prices that someone with a salary in Mexican pesos could hardly do so.

Given this, the controversy has grown in the digital trench. According to information from Information Tracer, collected from June 17 to July 17, the conversation into X is divided into four great edges. The first is a frontal criticism of the actions of the Government of Mexico City; then the hard and pure reaction of the capitalists; Then comes one of the most pointed issues such as the regulation of income in the Mexican capital, to end in media coverage and analysis of government policy in housing.

There, the conversation has been divided by having Clara Brugada as a party point, who represents the government policies that are taken against gentrification. This, after a public policy against this phenomenon was presented, through which the income is sought and that they do not rise more with respect to the inflation reported by the INEGI and, in addition, to strengthen the regulation of income in real estate real estate, that is to say Airbnb.

In the Cluster of X analyzed, who manifest themselves in favor of the head of the capital government, they explain that the policies that will be implemented will “make the Mexican capital habitable.” Also, the “Plan against Gentrification” stands out in which the right to fair income will defend.

On this position, the bulk of the analyzed tweets agrees that the plan of the head of government will be beneficial for those who seek to rent at a fair price, if not exorbitant.

Those who external views against the measures undertaken by the Government of the CDMX expose several points. One of them is the potential damage that can cause in the long term to the real estate market. Similarly, they ensure that economic and investment freedom is limited. One of the main arguments is how the measures implemented by the Government of Mexico City would be harmful to the real estate of the income that, incidentally, lacks regulations.

In X there seems to be two sides. Those who defend that income must obey a logic of supply and demand. In the other there are those who believe that running the business of annual or temporary income would help to have decent housing access.

The reality is that the lack of information, as well as the ignorance of the subject have made the marches called against gentrification out of control and, unfortunately, give rise to xenophobia and read messages such as “gringo Go Home”. In the same period of time (June 17 to July 17) in Google Trends, a specific increase in the searches of the term gentrification with its branches could be seen: Gentrification, CDMX Gentrification and Gentrification it is. When the term “Gentrification What is”, one of the related topics is: “xenophobia, what it is” is reviewed in detail in detail. “
