A young man was removed from a plane on the Bogotá-Barranquilla route for not carrying his physical card, which unleashed doubts on social networks about the validity of the digital card on national flights. The National Registry had to clarify the current protocols.
The incident occurred when the passenger showed a PDF file of his document from the cell phone. Although he was initially authorized by the airline staff, the police detected the irregularity and ordered their landing to verify their identity.
Why was it removed from the plane?
The problem was not the use of the digital card itself, but the way it was presented. As it was known, the young man did not use the official application of the Registry, but showed a scan in PDF, format that is not accepted as a means of identification.
Apparently, the passenger had been the victim of a robbery and only retained a digital copy of his document. However, current regulations require specific ways to present digital documents in contexts such as aerial approach.
What is valid to address national flights
The Registry clarifies that it is possible to travel within the country with the digital card, as long as the following conditions are met:
- Digital card shown from the official app of the Registry: It is the safest and most approved method.
- Yellow physical card with holograms or the physical version of the digital card: Both remain completely valid.
What is not accepted as a valid document
Avoid these forms of presentation, since they can prevent you from addressing your flight:
- Document screenshots.
- Photos taken to the document.
- PDF files stored on the cell phone.
- Paper document impressions.
Who verifies identity at the airport?
