The amount of users of Internet Banking exceeds eight million in the country, with a bank that has strengthened its service channels, from contact through digital applications to interaction through WhatsApp. As an example, the number of clients who carry out transactions through the online banking increased 22.4% in one year.
According to the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD), the financial system had 8,422,170 users digital until October 2024, almost double those registered in 2020 and six times more than added in 2014, when it began to be added to financial statistics.
“The users and users of the online banking staff have mostly migrated their transactions to the mobile applicationHowever, this channel has not stopped growing and offering broader functionalities than applications,” indicates the Superintendency of Banks (SB) in its 2024 digitalization ranking.
The entity compared the evolution of the alternate channels of the financial system, highlighting the online banking and mobile applications as the most widely used ways. In fact, 52.7% of local operations carried out online were carried out with debit cards; while, 47.2% went with those of credit and the remaining 0.05% with prepaid cards, from October 2023 to the same month of this year.
As for the international transactionsthe most used were those of creditwith 59.5%; 40.3% with debit and 0.2% prepaid.
The Association of Multiple Banks of the Dominican Republic (ABA) indicated that in one year, online transactions were made using bank cards, both for local and international purchases, for a value of 192,725 million pesos. This figure represented an increase of 35.4 billion pesos in absolute and relative terms by 22.5%, according to Central Bank statistics.
