Digesett guides pedestrians

Today began an awareness and road education campaign aimed at pedestrians in Greater Santo Domingo, seeking to help reduce traffic accidents.  The plan began today at the corner of 27 de Febrero Máximo Gómez, where agents from the Digesett and the Human Rights Commission guided passers-by on the importance of using the pedestrian bridges and the reasons why they were built on the different roads. .

The General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (Digesett) today began an awareness and road education campaign to protect pedestrians from traffic accidents when traveling on the roads of Greater Santo Domingo.

The director of the Digesett, Brigadier General Ramón A. Guzmán Peralta, said that with the initiative the passerby will be educated about their duties and responsibilities and the driver about the rights of the pedestrian.

“We will be using a part of the administrative staff of members of Human Rights to guide both the driver and the pedestrian in this campaign that we started today,” he said.

The officer indicated that they will ensure that pedestrians do not risk crossing intersections and use pedestrian bridges, in order to prevent any incident, especially on roads where there is a greater flow of vehicles.

“We are going to use safe and efficient mechanisms so that they do not take risks and there are no regrettable situations when crossing the street,” said General Guzmán Peralta.

In addition, drivers will be encouraged about the importance of giving way to pedestrians, without putting the lives of other drivers at risk.

“We will also be supplying educational flyers with the duties of the pedestrian and we will not only be supervising in the sense of education, but to influence them and know how they should cross a road”, explained the general director of the Digesett.
