Santo Domingo. – The director of the General Directorate of Traffic and Terrestrial Transportation (DIGESETT), General Pascual Cruz Méndez, reported Friday that 12 drivers Pinanas were sanctioned with RD $ 100,000 each during the month of August, after leaving the tails of their vehicles on highways and roads in the country, a practice that has caused fatal accidents in different areas.
Cruz Méndez explained that, in violation of Law 63-17 of Transit, the drivers left the trailer in full public road and were headed only with the head to make loading and unloading shifts, leaving the tail of the vehicle for hours and even until the next day.
“This situation has generated tragedies, among drivers of light vehicles that have collided with those tails parked in the dark, causing serious accidents and the loss of human lives in numerous cases,” said the head of Digesett.
The infractions were detected in roads of great circulation, including the Las Américas Highway, the East Highway and the Sánchez Highway, in coordination with the National Institute of Terrestrial Transit and Transportation (Intrant) and other state agencies.
The general recalled that, according to current regulations, cargo vehicles with more than three axes have circulation restrictions in the National District in specific schedules and must comply with the provisions on parking on the main roads.
Commitment to prevention
Cruz Méndez said that, although this practice has decreased in recent months thanks to control operations, DIGESETT will maintain permanent inspections on highways to detect and punish offenders.
At the same time, he urged the associations of cargo carriers to guide their members about the risk of leaving trailers without proper signage and in unauthorized places, since this practice not only causes human losses, but also serious congestion in transit.
