The General Directorate of Medicines, Inputs and Drugs (DIGEMID), attached to the Ministry of Health (MINSA), issued a preventive alert on fourteen dental pastes that contain tin fluoride, component associated with possible adverse reactions in oral health.
The warning occurs after Brazil prohibited dental cream Colgate Total Clean Mint due to irritation reports in users.
In an official statement, Digemid detailed: “The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) of Brazil issued the GGMON alert No. 03/2025 related to the reports of adverse effects with the use of dental creams containing tin fluoride. Anvisa said that in most cases medical or dental attention was required”.

Possible adverse effects
According to Digemid, the reported effects include:
- Oral lesions (aputas, sores, ampoules).
- Pain, burning or stinging.
- Swelling in tonsils, lips or oral mucosa.
- Numbness in lips or mouth.
- Irritation of gums and other lingual symptoms.
The institution clarified that, although “The antimicrobial benefits and anticaries of dental pastes with tin fluoride are scientifically recognized”adverse reactions “They can significantly compromise the acceptability of the product and consumer well -being”.
