DIGEMAPS issued 11,826 Health Registry licenses in 2024

Santo Domingo. – The General Directorate of Food, Medicines and Health Products (DIGEMAPS) issued a total of 11,826 Health Registration licenses during the year 2024, thus strengthening its governing capacity in matters of Regulation, Surveillance and Health Control for Foods, Beverages, Medicines and Health Products at the National Level.

The regulatory institution for products for human consumption specified that the 11,826 Health Registry licenses are classified into: Medicines and Naturals 3,178, Cosmetics and Hygiene 3,300, Health Products with two hundred (200) and Foods and Beverages with 5 thousand 148.

In addition, DIGEMAPS reported that during the year 2024, 7,233 Health Registration renewals were issued, distributed as follows: 1,186 of Food and Beverages, 397 of Cosmetics and Hygiene Products, 5,463 of Medicines and Natural Products and 187 of Health Products.

In 2024, DIGEMAPS focused its efforts on pre- and post-marketing surveillance of food, beverages, medicines and health products to guarantee, through the different modules and corrective and preventive actions, the quality, safety and effectiveness of the products before and after of its entry into the market, thus guaranteeing the protection of national public health,” said Leandro Villanueva, general director of the entity.

Another important achievement of the institution was the management of 100,324 import requests linked to medicines, food and health products, through the VUCE system, achieving a collection of RD$100,324,000.00 for that concept alone.

Among the most recent advances exhibited by DIGEMAPS are the implementation of institutional strengthening strategies, digitalization of processes and alignment with global standards which mark a before and after in the national regulatory landscape.

Regulatory harmonization with international standards is another important step that the Dominican Republic has taken, consolidating its position as a regional benchmark. Its inclusion in the International Medical Device Regulators Forum (IMDRF) is a clear example of this commitment, allowing the country to actively participate in the creation of global regulations and access innovative tools for health regulation.

Leandro Villanueva stated that regulatory modernization not only protects public health, but also promotes economic and social development because an efficient and reliable regulatory system makes the Dominican Republic an attractive destination for investment in sectors such as biotechnology. , medical device manufacturing and the pharmaceutical industry.

The commitment of the Dominican Republic to the modernization of its health regulatory system is a reflection of its strategic vision for 2025 that has just begun and the years to come, Villanueva concluded.
