The differences between the Justicialist Party (P.J.) from the interior and the Kirchnerist leadership (K) have worsened in the Chamber of Deputies, generating tensions that could lead to new departures of legislators. This internal conflict has been fueled by various political disputes and criticism of the modus operandi of Kirchnerism, which has put the Unión por la Patria (UP) bloc on alert.
The recent departure of the Santa Fe deputy Roberto Mirabella has been a clear indication of the growing tensions within the PJ. Mirabella, a trusted man of former governor Omar Perotti, said goodbye with harsh criticism of the leadership of Germán Martínez in the Chamber of Deputies and Cristina Kirchner in the P.J. National.
This decision did not surprise her colleagues, who already knew that Mirabella would adopt a differentiation strategy for next year. Mirabella expressed her discontent with the lack of treatment of a federal agenda and participation in final decisions, as well as the lack of internal communication.
These criticisms were directed directly at Kirchnerism and Camporism, reflecting the deep divisions within the party. Mirabella’s departure could be just the first of several defections expected in the short term.
Deputies from different internal lines have recognized that coexistence in the bloc has become impossible and that new defections could occur during the summer. Among the names listed are deputies from Jujuy, Chubut, Mendoza, Neuquén and Chaco, as well as legislators from Catamarca who move under the orbit of Governor Raúl Jalil.
Some deputies have talked about forming new blocks and leaving the UP scheme, while others consider the possibility of forming interblocks to maintain a certain unity. Any of these options would mark a significant fracture within the party.
Impact
The internal dispute between Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (CFK) and Buenos Aires governor Axel Kicillof has also had a significant impact on tensions within the P.J.. Criticism of CFK’s leadership and lack of support for Kicillof has generated additional divisions within the party.
The relationship between CFK and Kicillof has been tense, and some Buenos Aires Peronist legislators have expressed their discontent with the lack of collaboration between both leaders. Criticism of Kirchnerism’s modus operandi has been a key factor in tensions within the PJ.
