The presentation of the new coach of the national team Uruguay, Diego Alonso, scheduled for December 23, has been postponed after testing positive for covid-19, reported this Tuesday the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF).
“We inform that Diego Alonso, technical director of the senior team, has tested positive for covid-19 today, which will make it impossible to travel to Montevideo scheduled for December 23, “said this organization through a statement.
The document adds that the coach, who is in Europe, the disease is passing “with total normality” and that in the coming days the AUF will communicate the new work schedule.
Alonso was announced on December 14 as the successor to Oscar Washington Tabárez who was in office since 2006.
Born in Montevideo in 1975, he began his coaching career in 2011 directing the Beautiful view from his country, a team in which he had also started as a footballer.
Then he went through the Peñarol, the Paraguayans Guarani Y Olympia, the American Inter Miami and the Mexicans Pachuca Y Monterrey.
With these last two, the new coach of Celeste won his only titles as a coach.
Next January 26, in Assumption, Alonso will debut in front of the Light blue in view of Paraguay for the South American qualifiers of the Qatar World Cup 2022.
This will be the first of the four games he will play Uruguay for that contest, in which he will also receive Venezuela Y Peru, before visiting Chili.
