Diego Alonso is elected as head of the Uruguayan soccer team

The Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) chose Diego Alonso to succeed as of today the 15-year cycle of maestro Oscar Tabárez, at the head of the sky-blue national team.

The AUF agreement with Alonso is for the four games ahead of the South American Qualifiers towards the 2022 world championship, against Paraguay away (January 27), Venezuela at home (February 1), Peru at home (March 24) ) and Chile as a visitor (March 29).

Its permanence will be conditional on reaching the quota for Qatar and in that case there will be a contractual extension until 2026.

The celestial is currently in seventh position outside the classification zone, with 16 units behind Peru and Colombia with 17, Ecuador with 23, Argentina with 29 and Brazil with 35.
