Family demands justice after irregularities in school infrastructure; Prosecutor and school are in the sight.
News Colombia.
After the lifeless finding of Valeria Afanador, missing on August 12 and found 18 days later in Cajicá, the family raised strong accusations against the Los Laurel Campestre Gymnasium College.
Lawyer Julián Quintana said in an interview with Blu Radio that what happened constitutes a “Homicide by omission”, Because the institution did not guarantee the security or supervision of the girl, who had Down syndrome.

To support his complaint, he recalled that the videos show Valeria on the football court at 9:50 in the morning, at a time in which he should be in class, without a responsible adult by watching her, according to Time.

An altered scene?
The most serious point of the complaint refers to what Quintana called the manipulation of the scene.
As explained, the perimeter mesh of the school had noticeable holes where a person could enter or leave, and those damages were repaired after the disappearance.
“Under that metal mesh there were protuberant holes that were already covered with cement, mud and stone”, Said the lawyer, cited by RCN news. This situation, he said, prevents a faithful reconstruction of the facts and compromises essential evidence for research.
The school, on the other hand, denied that there would be deliberate manipulation. In a statement released by The spectatorThe institution pointed out that the area was in custody of the authorities, and that the alterations were produced by the transit of rescue equipment such as Firefighters, CTI and Civil Defense during search operations.
In addition, they clarified that subsequent adjustments were intended to strengthen the security of the campus, not hinder the judicial process.
New revelations and suspicions
To these tensions another complaint was added: the rector of the College would have mentioned before private investigators the existence of an “enemy” of the campus, information that was never given to the Prosecutor’s Office, he revealed The Colombian.
For the defense of the family, this omission could give lights on an eventual mobile and reinforces the cover -up hypothesis.
The Afanador family formally requested the prosecution investigating the rector and school directives. They also requested precautionary measures, the review of the security cameras material and a technical expert opinion in the area, he reported Caracol news.

Quintana insisted that the responsibility of the school is contemplated in article 25 of the Criminal Code, which forces those who are under their care a legal good – in this case Valeria’s life – to respond for the damages generated by omission.
