In a video recorded at Maiquetía Airport, dated last Saturday, August 10, 2024, the massive departure from Venezuela, and with several suitcases per person, of alleged Cuban citizens was reported. It is true that that day Cubana de Aviación had a flight leaving Caracas bound for Havana at 2:45 pm, but there is not enough evidence that, for now, allows us to confirm that the passengers were Cubans returning to their country.

In a video recorded at Maiquetía Airport, dated last Saturday, August 10, 2024, the mass departure of alleged Cuban citizens with around seven suitcases per person was recounted.
We do not know exactly if the people in the video are Cubans returning to their country, nor do we know which flight or airline they are on, since the voice-over narrating the 39-second video does not reveal these details. None of the travelers exchange information with the videographer.
Text of the video sound:
“Hi, we are in Maiquetía. This flight is going to Cuba, Havana. Look how the Cubans are. The Cubans who are here in Venezuela. My brother, this thing is a complete move.”
At second 25 it makes a cut and continues as follows:
“Look, this is the small luggage that Cubans are carrying when they are leaving for Cuba. How are you doing?”
By doing a reverse search of the video we found that it was indeed posted on social media on August 10, but we lack the additional information necessary to confirm that these are Cuban citizens returning to their country.

On Saturday, August 10, 2024, there was a Cubana de Aviación flight to Havana, CU313, scheduled to depart at 2:45 pm from gate 14. This date coincides with the date the video was posted on social media. This airline also flies to the Cuban capital on Tuesdays.
Venezuelan airline Conviasa flies to Havana on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, at different daytime times.
We were unable to determine how many charter or rental flights took place last Saturday from Maiquetía to Havana.
The government of Nicolás Maduro and that of Havana are political allies and maintain a series of agreements in the areas of health, education and security through which Havana has sent groups of Cuban citizens to Venezuela.
The number of Cuban citizens in Venezuela is unknown, but according to Julio Borges, Presidential Commissioner for Foreign Relations of the former interim government, in statements to ABC in 2020, he said that: “about 220,000 Cubans have been sent to the country throughout these 21 years of Chavismo”, while the Statista website estimated it for 2020 alone at more than 10 thousand people.
