Dictatorship orders sweep of the UNI; PGR even delivered dismissal letters

The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo began a new wave of dismissals in the country’s public sector. Workers and students from the National University of Engineering (UNI) confirmed to Article 66 that the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) appeared at the central campus of that alma mater to deliver a series of dismissal letters to teachers and members of administrative areas.

The sources report that some of those fired were accused by the PGR of alleged “embezzlement of funds” in projects to improve infrastructure, teacher and student welfare.

They mentioned that among the dismissed staff, in addition to teachers who also had administrative positions, were secretaries, those in charge of student welfare areas and also part of the staff of the Faculty of Industry Technology (FTI).

The PGR and UNI directors, during their visit to deliver dismissal letters, asked the dismissed personnel to check their computers and cell phones and directed them to accusations linked to alleged “missing” and “forged signatures” that they did not show them.

In addition, they forced them to sign the dismissal letters and told them that they were going without benefits, under the threat of going to prison for alleged allegations of embezzlement of funds.

The sources consulted indicate that the dismissed collaborators are frightened by the way in which they were removed from their permanent positions, they appreciate that the actions of the UNI and PGR authorities were in order not to pay them their settlements.

Layoffs will extend to other UNI headquarters

Students consulted by this medium affirm that some of the teachers affected by this sweep limited themselves to writing in the WhatsApp groups they had with their students, who were officially no longer their teachers.

The rector Glenda Velásquez, the people consulted assured, has not yet been fired and even accompanies the PGR in this wave of dismissals. However, he is no longer assigned the truck that was given to him when he took office and other collaborators have also had their fuel benefits withdrawn.

The dismissals, they confirmed, will extend to the headquarters of the Pedro Aráuz Palacios University Campus (RUPAP), of the UNI, since they manage that the rector Velásquez plans to go, together with the PGR, to visit that headquarters during this week.

The Ortega regime, since last August, announced a supposed process of state “organization, restructuring and redesign”, with which it seeks to “promote savings and efficiency in spending and public management.” The supposed order has already left thousands of people unemployed, among those collaborators of the Ministry of the Cooperative and Associative Community Family Economy (MEFCCA), the Ministry of Health (Minsa) and different mayors of the country.
