President Miguel Díaz Canel received at the Palace of the Revolution the vice president of the United States Food Industry Association, Mark Baum, and the head of the Hope Foundation for Cuba, Jorge Ignacio Fernández.
According to an agency dispatch Latin Press (PL), the meeting discussed issues such as the business potential between the two countries and the problems imposed on Cuba by US policy, particularly the embargo/blockade.
The visitors met last Monday with the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Antonio Carricarte, and expressed their interest in establishing commercial ties, especially in the food sector.
Businessmen from the United States advocate for more exchanges with Cuba
Fernández pointed out, the agency stresses, that one of the functions of the institution he heads is to create bridges with foreign businessmen interested not only in doing business with Cuba, but also in working on issues/problems such as sustainable energy. Also with medical device companies interested in Cuban vaccines.
For his part, Mark Baum expressed his interest in learning about the Cuban market in order to determine in which areas collaboration is possible.
Both agreed, reports PL, that the effects and problems caused by the embargo/blockade and by the inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries that sponsor terrorism, but at the same time highlighted the existence of small possibilities or usable gaps in favor of trade .
