Díaz-Canel, on tour to save his government

Miguel Díaz-Canel, Raúl Castro

Havana Cuba. – This November 16, Raúl Castro said goodbye to Miguel Díaz-Canel at the “José Martí” International Airport. The ruler was going on a tour in search of help to prop up totalitarianism in Cuba.

With the electrical energy sector as his fundamental objective, Díaz-Canel announced his tour of Algeria, Russia, Turkey and China from November 16 to 27. The urgent obtaining of financing, fuel and investments, and the expansion of the sale of medical services to alleviate the eternal crisis and start the economy, will foreseeably occupy his agenda and negotiations.

The ruler left behind the Havana International Fair (FIHAV 22), and the impoverished celebrations for the 503rd anniversary of the capital. His delegation is made up of Vice Prime Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas and Alejandro Gil, and the Ministers of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Energy and Mines, and Public Health.

The Government of Continuity requires help to reassure the rebellious population, with expressions of unusual discontent throughout Cuba, due to the difficulties in obtaining food, medicine and essential items, and for having to endure electrical blackouts of up to 12 and 18 hours daily.

Díaz-Canel has pledged his prestige by promising that by the end of the year the electrical problem will be solved through new repairs and investments, which seem unlikely as the date approaches and the breaks in the the obsolete Cuban thermoelectric plants, with 35 and 40 years of exploitation, without capital maintenance and with few spare parts. Only the great efforts of the workers of the plants achieve their sporadic operation.

Added to this are the unstable fuel supplies, fundamentally for distributed thermal generation, that is, the generator sets with which Fidel Castro supplied the construction of new plants. The money to import scarce supplies of rice, chicken, vegetable oil, wheat flour and other foods, as well as to pay down debt commitments, is non-existent.

Nor are there productions to supply and export, with fundamental industries destroyed such as sugar, and tobacco devastated by Hurricane Ian. Until now, only the Government offers the hundreds of measures of the Ordering Task, which have not reactivated state companies or agriculture, but have encouraged high inflation, the exodus that is depopulating the country and repression.

The Cuban ruler seeks to achieve urgent economic salvation with the support of the leaders of the most politically committed countries, by using the inheritance of Fidel Castro, as support for the liberation struggle and the sending of the first contingent of medical personnel to Algeria in 1963. Ties with China and Turkey have been strengthened, while relations with Vladimir Putin have been strengthened with support for his invasion of Ukraine. But whoever pays rules, as the great Benito Juárez said.

Díaz-Canel wrote that he will visit friends and open paths with efforts to get out of the besieged economy. On this occasion, I could take advantage of the conversations and the samples of progress in those countries, which were very poor and backward when in 1959 Cuba continued to implement the most advanced discoveries of Humanity, to understand that only the opening to the free participation of citizens will restore prosperity. There the excuse of the “blockade” will not achieve rescues.
