Díaz-Canel on the blackouts: “We are convinced that we are going to win”

MIAMI, United States. — The Cuban ruler, Miguel Díaz-Canel, addressed this Tuesday the energy crisis that crosses the country and that hits most of the territories of the Island.

In a telematic meeting from the Palace of the Revolution with the governors of the provinces, Díaz-Canel pointed out that the authorities must inform the population in time about the power outages so that the families suffer the least possible damage.

“The precision with which we report the programming of these blackouts and the speed with which we are able to warn of any unforeseen situation that occurs is important, so that people have the ability to maneuver and reorder their lives,” said the president.

Díaz-Canel insisted that the country faces problems with fuel shortages, a fact that, together with the constant failures of the main thermoelectric plants, has led to the massification of blackouts.

However, in this context, he highlighted the work of “the people who are transporting the little fuel” that exists “so that it reaches the places as quickly as possible.”

In statements collected by the Cuban Presidencythe president assured that the economic situation that Cuba is going through is due to the intensification of the United States blockade and the world crisis caused by more than two years of COVID-19.

“We can assure our people that what this whole situation causes us most today is the tightening of the blockade, which remains permanent, remains untouchable,” he said.

Despite the serious crisis that the island is going through, Raúl Castro’s successor wanted to send the people a message of optimism.

“We are convinced that we will always win, even in the worst of situations; we have the capacity and we are going to do it (…) In the midst of such an adverse situation, it would be irresponsible to say that the results are going to come suddenly, but what we are sure of is that the results, even if they are slow, are going to come because a lot of work is being done,” Díaz-Canel insisted.
