The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, arrived this Thursday at the Pearl of the South, to lead the third government visit to the Cienfuegos territory.
The first of these tours took place in January 2019, and the second, in February 2020.
This year, this work system of the national government is implemented in the midst of a complicated scenario, marked by a complex economic situation, the intensified impact of the blockade and the international crisis imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the midst of this tense panorama, Cuba promotes the Economic and Social Development Strategy, while making colossal efforts to strengthen the municipal Local Development Program.
The visit to this province in the center-south of the country also has the objective of promoting the strengthening of the administrative structures of the Organs of People’s Power and verifying the state of compliance with the agreements adopted in previous government visits.
In Cienfuegos, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa, Vice Prime Ministers, holders of various portfolios, presidents of Institutes and officials of the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.

The province is located in the center and south of Cuba. It limits to the west and to the north, with the province of Matanzas; to the east and northeast with the province of Villa Clara; to the south with the Caribbean Sea; and to the southwest with the province of Sancti Spíritus.
It occupies the twelfth place in extension among the provinces with 4,186.60 square kilometers, representing 3.8 percent of the total area of the country.
Its capital is the port city of Cienfuegos, also known as the “Pearl of the South”.
