MADRID, Spain.- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez congratulated the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), on Monday for the renewal of his mandate.

“Congratulations to López Obrador, ratified as president of Mexico in an unprecedented evaluation in his country,” he expressed through the social network Twitter the Cuban dictator.

Last March, when announcing the Mexican president’s visit to Cuba next May, Díaz-Canel stated: “It is always a pleasure to receive Brothers of the Great Homeland and to Lopez Obrador. They have a privileged place in our affections.”

In September 2021, Díaz-Canel visited Mexico to participate in the commemorative acts of the Independence of the Aztec country. After being criticized for the invitation to the Cuban dictator, López Obrador pointed out that he “had the doors open to all rulers.”

This Sunday López Obrador won the first recall referendum in Mexico to continue as president until 2024. According to the quick count of the National Electoral Institute (INE), AMLO’s followers massively supported him: between 90.3% and 91, 9%.

“I am staying and we are going to continue with the transformation of our country,” AMLO said in a message broadcast from the National Palace.

Electoral authorities, citizens and opposition political parties had denounced federal government officials in recent days for violating the electoral law by promoting the revocation of the mandate, promoted since last August.

In February 2015, Andrés Manuel López Obrador expressed his intentions to run for the presidency for the third time through the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) party. In November 2017, he presented his “Alternative Nation Project 2018-2024” and was elected in July 2018.
