AREQUIPA, Peru – Cuban dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel spoke in a post in X (formerly Twitter) to Venezuelans protesting against electoral fraud in Venezuela, calling them “guarimberos” and “fascists.”
Using the hashtag “CubaDenuncia,” the infamous ruler used a discourse similar to that used by his own regime when Cubans peacefully demonstrated for change on July 11 and 12, 2021.
“Those who cried fraud before the elections; those who disqualify Nicolás Maduro’s victory without arguments; the coup plotters and the guarimberos of the moment, are on the side of those who hate and destroy, the enemies of Venezuela and Our America,” wrote Díaz-Canel.
After the Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE), controlled by Chavismo, accredited the presidential election to dictator Maduro on July 29, the Castro government on the island was the first to celebrate its ally in Caracas.
“We reaffirm our firm support for brother Nicolás Maduro and the Bolivarian and Chavista people, in the face of the campaign of harassment and political and communication manipulation that seeks to repeat failed attempts to impose a fascist government in Venezuela,” said the Cuban leader.
However, despite the efforts of the Communist Party propaganda in Cuba to defend one of its strongest partners in the region, a few hours after the CNE of Venezuela will announce the results of the presidential elections, Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay demanded a full review of the results with independent observers.
The presidency of Costa Rica repudiated the proclamation of Nicolás Maduro, calling it fraudulent, and announced its collaboration with democratic governments and international organizations to respect the will of the Venezuelan people.
Likewise, Argentine President Javier Milei affirmed that his country will not recognize the fraud and that Venezuelan citizens have chosen to end Maduro’s dictatorship. From Chile, President Gabriel Boric and Foreign Minister Alberto Van Klaveren condemned the results, demanding transparency and the participation of international observers.
Peruvian Foreign Minister Javier González-Olaechea also denounced the irregularities and stated that Peru will not accept the violation of the popular will.
Protests and other reactions to the post-election situation
Meanwhile, the situation in Venezuela remains tense and at least six people have died during popular protests against the electoral fraud perpetrated by Nicolás Maduro on July 28. The demonstrations, which have spread to several cities in the country and have been repressed by the Chavista armed forces, have also left dozens injured and arrested.
The protests were triggered after the regime of Nicolás Maduro declared itself the winner and was willing to govern for six more years.
