MIAMI, United States. — Cuban ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel assured today on social networks that the massive exodus of Cubans to the United States is a consequence of the embargo, “which deteriorates the standard of living of the people.”
“The blockade constitutes the main obstacle to the development of Cuba and, therefore, deteriorates the standard of living of the Cuban people; becoming, moreover, a fundamental cause of migration,” Díaz-Canel wrote in his twitter account.
The also first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) exposed, among the causes of the migration crisis, the permanence of the Cuban Adjustment Law, as well as political interests.
“We have repeatedly alerted the United States government about the risks of stimulating irregular emigration, with the validity of the Cuban Adjustment Act and the privileged and politically motivated treatment received by Cubans who arrive on US territory or its border,” said the president.
A normal migratory relationship, which facilitates all types of travel between the two countries, will drastically reduce irregular migratory flows and their disastrous consequences.

Díaz-Canel added that “only a normal migratory relationship, which facilitates all types of travel between both countries, will drastically reduce irregular migratory flows and their dire consequences.”
From October 2021 to November 2022 they had entered US territory through the southern border 284 431 Cubans, according to statistics published by the Office of Customs and Border Protection (CBP, for its acronym in English).
Between October and November 2022 alone, 63,523 migrants from the Island have entered, figures much higher than those registered in the same period of 2021.
The immigration crisis forced the Biden administration to implement a new policy to restrict the entry of Cubans, Haitians and Nicaraguans across the border with Mexico. It authorizes the competent authorities to expel migrants from the country expeditiously.
To compensate for the “closure” of the border, Washington launched a parole program so that a total of 30,000 citizens of these nationalities can enter the United States every month in a “safe, legal, and orderly” manner.
