MIAMI, United States. — The Cuban ruler reacted this Friday on social networks to the first win of the Cuba team that takes part in the fifth edition of the World Baseball Classic.
The Antillean team beat its Panamanian counterpart 13 runs to four and kept alive its mathematical chances of advancing to the next round, waiting for a combination of results.
Díaz-Canel, who had remained silent after the successive defeats against the Netherlands and Italy, celebrated the Cuban success and assured that he stayed awake at dawn today to watch the match against the canaleros.
“The alligator woke up and revealed the country. Cuba does not sleep when its team plays. Also in the Clásico the slogan is valid: better is possible, ”wrote the president on his Twitter account.

Despite the victory against Panama, Cuba still must defeat the Taiwan team, host of group A, to maintain any chance of advancing to the second round, something that still seems complicated.
Prior to the start of the tournament, Díaz-Canel had been optimistic regarding the chances of the Cuban team to achieve a good performance in the tournament.
The governor visited to part of the cast in one of the training sessions held last month at the Latin American Stadium. That day he bet on the return of Cuba to the baseball elite.
“You can mark a milestone in the history of Cuban baseball in present times and open that path for the future and we want to be able to return to the stellar planes of baseball in the shortest possible time,” said the president on that occasion.
In recent days, Cuban fans inside and outside the island have shown their dissatisfaction with the team’s performance in the Classic. Likewise, many have blamed the Castro regime for being responsible for the island’s team not being able to attend the event with its main players.
