Díaz-Balart: “USA will continue to deny resources to the oppressors of the Cuban people”

The congressman warned that supporting the Cuban government “strengthens a regime that acts consistently against the National Security of the US”.

Miami, United States. -Cuban American congressman Mario Díaz-Balart published in x that the United States “supports the Cuban people in their struggle for freedom” and that they will continue to deny “to their oppressors” resources until on the island “fundamental human rights are respected.”

In addition, he warned that supporting the Cuban government “strengthens a regime that acts consistently against the national security of the United States.”

With that message, Díaz-Balart shared a previous publication of the US Western Hemisphere Affairs Office, which qualifies as “false” the narrative of the “blockade” used by the island’s regime.

“The false narrative of a ‘blockade’ towards Cuba is one of the various lies of the failed dictatorship on the island. The Cuban people and the world can see it with their own eyes. If the ‘revolution’ is going so well, why does the dictatorship have so much fear of truly free and democratic elections?” Asked the US entity.

The pronouncement adds to other questions of the US government about the political situation in Cuba, where the authorities maintain the prohibition of opposition parties, limit civil freedoms and do not summon free elections.

A week ago, Cuban Chancellor Bruno Rodríguez presented in Havana the official report on the effects of the United States embargoto which the economic and social crisis attributes almost exclusively. The document qualifies the “blockade” as “genocidal policy” and rules out that the situation responds to internal errors. According to the text, it is “cynical” to affirm that the difficulties come from the socialist model or management failures, ensuring that the embargo is “the main obstacle to development.”

The report indicates alleged impacts on sectors such as health, energy and foreign trade, with millionaire losses, and includes examples such as the frustrated purchase of medical supplies and the impossibility of marketing Heberprot-P in the US.

The US embargo to Cuba, which the ruling calls “block”, is presented by the regime as a policy aimed at provoking hunger and suffering to the Cuban people. However, the origin of the restrictions denies that narrative: the first sanction was not against Castroism, but against the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship in 1958, when the Dwight D. Eisenhower administration suspended the sale of weapons for human rights violations.

Already under Fidel Castro, the massive expropriations of US companies in 1960 led Washington to suspend the purchase of sugar and ban exports to the island, with the exception of food and medicines. During the October 1962 crisis The only real naval blockage occurred, after discovering Soviet missiles on the island. Then, the food and medicine trade continued, although limited by the lack of credit and distrust of Cuban state companies.
