The Antillean duo dominated in all facets of the game, with an advantage in attack (24-15), blocking (3-0) and service (4-1), and barely committed an unforced error, compared to the 11 recorded by their rivals.
Noslen Díaz led the offense with 22 points—20 of them on attacks and two aces—while Alayo contributed nine points combining kills, blocks and serves. Tohouegnon was the best for Benin with 11 goals.
The duel marked an encouraging start for the disciples of Francisco Álvarez Cutiño, who They will perform again on Saturday at 10:30 pm (Cuba time) against the New Zealanders Brad Fuller and Ben O’Dea, in their second outing of the group stage.
One day later, They will close this stage against the Portuguese Joao Pedrosa and Hugo Campos, in what is shaping up to be the most demanding clash for the Cubans in their group.
