Diarrhea, the most common condition among migrant children

Irregular migrants crossing the Darién jungle hoping to reach the United States are facing various minor health ailments, including skin problems and diarrhea.
According to the director of the Metropolitan Health Region, Israel Cedeño, many of those affected by these pathologies are children. He revealed that of the group of migrants located in the temporary shelter, enabled by the Venezuelan embassy in Panama, about 315 were children and 20 of them presented diarrhea.
He said that the health staff continues to coordinate the care of these migrants and that this Monday about 35 migrants received medical care.

They have also coordinated the transfer of four migrants to the Health Center in Parque Lefevre and their condition is stable.
A 6-year-old boy was also transferred to the Children’s Hospital due to dehydration.
“Children and adults have been found with diarrhea, minor trauma, dehydration, nothing serious, skin problems and dermatitis are very common pathologies in irregular migrants who have spent difficult days, crossing the Darién Gap, including some returning from Costa Rica, towards here”, explained Cedeño.
He said that the Health team remains in the migrant care modules from 8 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon, with the delivery of medicines and ambulances for transfers, to primary and third-level care facilities. if necessary.
