The cases of diarrhea in Arica and Parinacota have increased considerably so far in 2023, which has been verified in different emergency services in the region.
According to epidemiological surveillance data from the local Health Seremi, up to the seventh week of the year, the area already has 1,553 cases, which is equivalent to 57.8% more than in the same period of the previous year.
Last week, 281 cases were registered throughout the region, which represents 13% of all emergency care. The previous week there were 270 cases and the average between 2018 and 2022 was 154 cases.
Of the total affected, 56% are between 15 and 64 years old, but diarrhea can affect people of all ages.
In this situation, it is essential to take preventive measures to avoid getting infected. Here are some recommendations to keep your intestines safe:

- Consume potable or boiled water and avoid water from unknown sources.
- Cook food thoroughly, especially meat and eggs, and eat it immediately after preparation.
