Dian puts the spotlight on thousands of businesses for low electronic billing

A few weeks ago, the National Tax and Customs Directorate (Dian) began a strategy of visits to different commercial establishments and companies throughout the national territory, in order to review how the process of implementing electronic invoicing is progressing, which is now mandatory and which Despite the challenges that its adoption has entailed, it is currently progressing without setbacks.

Based on this, the tax authority announced this week that on September 20 and 21, it will once again take to the streets with nearly 5,000 officials to reach several establishments that may be experiencing failures or anomalies in the issuance of digital invoices to their clients, in order to help them overcome any setbacks and bring them up to date with what the law requires.

“They will visit more than 8,000 billing managers throughout the country to verify the correct issuance of the electronic sales invoice, and report on the turnover of billing (average daily number of invoices issued) and average number of invoices per purchase,” they began by saying in a statement.

The Dian reported that during this event, officials will also invite buyers to validate the supporting documents for their purchases and raise awareness about the importance of requiring an electronic invoice to receive the benefit of a one percent (1%) deduction on the value of purchases in their income tax return.

The director of tax management of this entity, Cecilia Rico Torresadded that this event is taking place within the framework of the strategy “Up to date with the Dian, I fulfill my duty to the country”, which aims to impact thousands of buyers and businesses in different commercial corridors of 38 cities in Colombia. In Bogotá, for example, the presence of 1,600 officials in the 18 localities was scheduled; Barranquilla with 370, Medellín with 396 and Cali with 330 officials.

“With the electronic billing system we can know the daily average of electronic invoices issued by businesses and, according to studies carried out, we have shown that establishments are not supporting all of their sales with electronic invoices; that is, they are showing a low turnover in the issuance of invoices; therefore, we decided to go out into the streets to review and inform about compliance with the obligation from a persuasive and pedagogical approach,” explained Rico Torres.
