Dialogue on salary adjustment still without consensus

Dialogue on salary adjustment still without consensus

There is little more than a month to finish this 2022 and still the actors involved in the tripartite dialogue to evaluate wages do not agree, after both the Government, the private sector and trade unionists expressed their willingness to increase wages as a strategy so that the population can face the inflationary scale.

The president of the National Trade Union Confederation (UNCUS), Rafael-Pepe-Abreureported yesterday that there is no specific date for the next meeting in which an agreement should be reached to start adjusting salaries this year, as expressed by President Luis Abinader.

Abreu explained that after meeting to agree on the percentages and conditions for salary increases at a general level, the businessmen withdrew to exhaust a consultation process, but they have not yet indicated whether they are ready to schedule the next meeting.

Proposals

The Government proposed that a social pact should be signed with which the challenges faced by the actors can be eliminated every two years to evaluate the issue of remuneration, but the specifications to execute what was proposed are unknown.

The unionists consider that the agreement should contemplate a first increase of 25% in the current 2022, to continue increasing next year. Following that first step, they value as positive that the adjustments are scheduled annually, instead of every two years as it is done.

While businessmen have remained firm that the increase, at least for this year, be volunteer and in the following that is evaluated according to the inflation indexes registered by the Central Bank, explained Pepe Abreu to the press.

In this sense, the trade unionist said that there is no guarantee that the increases will be made voluntarily and that the correct thing to do is sign an agreement that establishes a fair percentage.
