Yesterday, Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente had a phone call with Kaja Kallas, high representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, in which they discussed strengthening the relationship between our country and the European bloc.

The conversation focused on progress towards the signing of the Modernized Global Agreement, which establishes the framework for political, economic and social cooperation between both regions.

During the call, both parties highlighted the achievements made in the negotiations for the Modernized Global Agreement, which will govern relations between Mexico and the European Union in the coming decades, with emphasis on sustainability, innovation and respect for human rights. .

According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), De la Fuente and Kallas also discussed Mexico’s participation in the Global Gateway initiative, a project led by the European Union that promotes the development of sustainable and digital infrastructure in countries. in development.

The agenda also included topics of common interest, such as gender equality, climate change and promotion of fundamental guarantees. These points were addressed in the context of the recent election of Mexico as a member of the Economic and Social Council, and the Human Rights Council of the United Nations for the period 2025-2027. The European Union recognized the country’s commitment in these areas and highlighted the importance of continuing to work together to promote inclusive and sustainable global agendas.

In turn, President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that she will shortly make the appointments of the Mexican ambassadors in Brazil and Panama, as well as the head of the Coordination of Consulates, which are the important positions abroad that are still pending. Likewise, he announced that he will meet with Tatiana Clouthier, who is responsible for the Institute of Mexicans Abroad.

Regarding the meeting she had on Wednesday with the consuls and ambassadors, the president highlighted that One of the most important issues for us is support for Mexicans abroad, particularly in the United States.. In addition, he said that he requested the members of the Mexican Foreign Service to have greater interaction with fellow citizens abroad and hold public hearings or establish mechanisms that allow them to know the needs of the people.
