The Argentinian Angel Di Maria will retire from international football after the world Cup this year in Qatar, the former Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United striker said on Monday.
“After this World Cup the time will come, there are many boys who are at the international level, who are improving and little by little they are going to show that they are at this level,” Di María told reporters before the Argentina team played against Italy this Wednesday at Wembley.
Di María, 34, played 121 times for the national team and scored 24 goals. He scored the game-winning goal last July as Argentina beat Brazil 1-0 to win the Copa América and lift its first major title in 28 years.
Di Maria will leave PSG this summer and has yet to decide where his club football will play next season, but said continuing at international level “would be a bit selfish after so many years and having achieved what I wanted to achieve.” “After (Qatar) I will certainly step aside.”
